Ronnie Alves (WP1) has given a Tutorial about "The Pervasiveness of Machine Learning in Omics Science" at the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECMLPKDD 2014). This event is the premier European machine learning and data mining conference and builds upon a very successful series of 24 ECML and 17 PKDD conferences, which have been jointly organized for the past 13 years.
Ronnie has also presented a paper entitled "A pipeline for functional and visual analytics of microbial genetic networks" in the 2ed. of the International Workshop on Dynamic Networks and Knowledge Discovery (DyNaK). The proposed approach extends the metagenomic gene-centric view by taking into account the set of genes present in a metagenome and also the complex links of interactions (i.e. metabolic pathways) shared among them, treating the microbiome as a single biological system. Leandro Correa, who is the first author has Ronnie as his supervisor in the Master's Computer Science program at the Universidade Federal do Pará, Brazil.
